Government of Karnali Province
Ministry Of Land Management, Agriculture & Co-operative
Directorate of Agriculture Development
Agriculture Development Office
Dolpa
Nepal is a landlocked country with an agriculture-based economy. From an economic perspective, about 60.4% of the active population depends on the agricultural sector. Since agriculture provides the raw materials required for industries and produces most of the goods suitable for export to international markets, it is not only the means of livelihood for the Nepali people but also the backbone of the national economy. It is an undeniable fact that unless the development of agriculture is prioritized, the living standards of the majority of the population cannot be uplifted. The agricultural policy of the Government of Nepal is to maintain a balance between agricultural development and environmental conservation, while transforming the available land and subsistence-oriented traditional farming system into income-generating, employment-oriented, and market-oriented farming systems.
To implement the declared agricultural policy of the Government of Nepal at the operational level, and to promote and deliver services related to crops suitable for the local climate—such as food grains, pulses, oilseeds, cash crops, fruits, potatoes, and vegetables—to farmers, the Agriculture Development Office Dolpa was established in 1977 AD (2034 B.S.), just as in other districts of the country. At present, this office is located in Dunai Bazaar, the district headquarters of Dolpa. The altitude of this location is about 6,500 feet above sea level. Through its subordinate branches—such as the Crop Protection Section, Horticulture Section, Agriculture Extension Section, Planning Section, Administration Section, and Engineering Section—the office has been conducting various programs in line with the agricultural policies of the Government of Nepal and the Karnali Province Government.
